What is an Isolated Footing Calculator?
This tool helps civil engineers and contractors estimate the exact concrete volume and steel reinforcement (rebar) required for a rectangular pad footing. It automatically calculates the grid spacing and outputs the total bill of materials.
How are the materials calculated?
Concrete volume is Length × Width × Thickness. The number of rebars in each direction is calculated by subtracting the clear cover from the total length, dividing by the spacing, and adding one.
Practical Example
For a 2m × 2m footing with 5cm cover and 15cm spacing. The available length for bars is 200cm - 10cm = 190cm. 190 / 15 = 12.66. We need 13 bars + 1 = 14 bars in each direction.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is clear cover important?
It protects the steel from corrosion and ensures adequate bonding with the concrete. Standard cover for footings cast against earth is usually 5 cm to 7.5 cm (2 to 3 inches).
Are hooks included in the weight?
Yes, when calculating the total length of a bar in a footing, standard 90-degree hooks at both ends are typically added to provide proper anchorage in the concrete.
